Non-Linear Editor

Galaxy Television is recruiting staffs for the following vacant position:

Job Title: Non-Linear Editor
Location: Lagos

Responsibilities
  • Understanding Director's Vision
The editor is the person who will ultimately make the film or video into the finished product that the audience will see. But the editor's responsibility is to understand and deliver on the director's vision for the project. The director talks with the editor and tells him what is expected and may even provide shot-by-shot instruction in some cases. While the editor will make some decisions based on his own taste and style, meeting the director's expectations is the top priority. This may require working closely with the director throughout the editing process.
  • Capture
One of the first things a non-linear editor must do is capture all of the footage that may be needed for the project. The footage may be delivered to the editor in digital form on a portable hard drive or it may be in its original format and need to be transferred to a format that the computer can capture. Depending on the production, this may be the editor's responsibility. In any case, the editor must get the footage into storage on the hard drive before he can use it.
  • Assembling the Images
The bulk of the creative work done by the editor involves assembling the images from the raw footage into an order that tells a story or accomplishes another goal of the project. This includes making interesting or seamless transitions from one shot to another. Editing also involves adding titles, effects and sound to the editing timeline to produce a viewer-ready production.
  • Making Changes
Once an editor has finished a "cut" of the project, the director and producers may look at it and decide which parts they like and which parts they want changed. The director makes notes and meets again with the editor to instruct him regarding any needed changes or to give him the approval to finish the project.
